Peeta:

Peeta grows up as the bakers son, with a mean mother. Before Katniss and him even went into the Games together, he had saved her life once by giving her a burnt loaf of bread when her family was starving. From that day forward he had been in love with her, and in the Games he used that to keep her alive. When he first went into the Hunger Games he teamed up with the Careers, kids that are trained to go into the Games from a young age. He did that to protect Katniss.
